Incognito Chat
Incognito chat is a per-conversation toggle that asks Themis to ignore everything it knows about you for a single thread. Useful when you want a neutral answer that isn’t shaped by your past preferences, role, team context, or saved memories.
What Gets Bypassed
When a chat is incognito, the agent does not see:
- Agent memory — saved facts about you and your team (see Agent Memory)
- Identity — your nickname and occupation
- Personalization settings — communication style, “About You”, custom instructions
- Group profile — any per-group instructions an admin has configured (in DMs / group mentions)
Memory tools are also disabled for the incognito thread: the agent cannot save or delete memories while running incognito, so nothing leaks back into your personalization.
What Still Applies
Incognito only suppresses personalization. Everything that makes Themis useful for the current task is still on:
- Skills — your space’s skills (personal, space, and system) still load
- Connected services — GitHub, Linear, Sentry, Metabase, Google Workspace tools still work
- Conversation history within the thread — Themis still sees the messages you and it have exchanged in this conversation; it’s working memory, not personalization
- Space settings — your space’s agent model, effort level, feature toggles, and policies still apply
If you fork an incognito conversation, the fork inherits the incognito flag — your fork stays neutral too.
Turning It On
The incognito toggle is in the chat composer toolbar, next to the upload icon. It only appears when you’re starting a new conversation — once a thread has messages in it, its personalization mode is locked in.
- The icon fills in when incognito is active.
- The input border switches to a dashed style so the mode is unmistakable while you type.
Send the first message with incognito on, and the conversation stays incognito for the rest of its life.
When To Use It
- Second opinion — you want Themis to answer a code or design question without anchoring on the conventions it has learned for your team.
- Cross-team work — you’re drafting something for a different audience and don’t want your usual tone or jargon to leak in.
- Sensitive prompts — you’d rather the agent not save anything from this thread as a memory fact.
- Sharing externally — pair with the Sharing feature when you want the shared transcript to be free of personalization context.
Limits
- Only on new chats. You can’t toggle an existing conversation into or out of incognito mode.
- Personalization, not isolation. The thread’s own message history is still passed to the agent — incognito does not turn the chat into a single-turn lookup.
- Per-conversation. Other conversations are unaffected. Turning incognito on for one thread does not change defaults for the rest of your inbox.
